The Pastor
Every church that ever existed began with a heed to a call from God. A church
does not just grow overnight like a mushroom. It takes a man’s obedience to the
call of God to surrender his life as a preacher and pastor. The Bible tells us that
God calls men to be his servants here on earth to preach the Kingdom of God.
The birth of the Metropolitan Bible Baptist Church Toronto (MBBC Toronto)
began with a surrender of a man who never had any inclination about being called
into the ministry. He was an ordinary person who had simple plans and ambitions
for his life. Having accepted Christ in his heart as his personal Savior, he
got saved and was baptized the same day on March 13, 1977, when he was in his
third year at the Manila Science High School. Since then, he had served the Lord
continuously in various capacities as a dedicated Christian worker on a voluntary
basis through the Metropolitan Bible Baptist Church of Sta. Ana, Manila. He took
up Bible College at the Bible Baptist Seminary at the same time he was pursuing a
course in Civil Engineering at the University of the Philippines. Having finished his engineering course
and passed the Civil Engineering board exam, he started a career as an engineer and
project manager.
Having been taught obedience and faithfulness he got involved in various Christian
works including teaching, evangelization, serving missions, lay preaching, team
organizations, programs and activity planning, church building, team leadership,
and church multi-project management.
His family moved to Canada on April fool’s day in 2003 (but God intended no joke
to bring him and his family to Canada). One evening in August 2005, he made a phone call to his pastor in the Philippines about a burden that he has been carrying in his heart. It was a burden for lost souls in the City of Toronto. It was in that phone conversation that he was given the authority to preach and baptize, and to evangelize this part of the world. With his wife, Sonia
and three kids, Carlo, Chris, and Grace and two faithful Christian ladies, the MBBC Toronto was born on September 11, 2005, Now the work is growing with families and individuals being reached by the gospel, a true testament indeed to God's power and grace.
His obedience to God’s call was not without any opposition. It was the day that he
made the devil so mad. A week after that phone call, he met his first and only
vehicular accident, after driving accident-free for 30 years. It was on highway 401,
the busiest highway in Canada where people get killed almost on a daily basis. The
van was totaled but there was not a single scratch on himself and his three kids that
were with him on that trip. It was the day that the Lord preserved their lives for
them to fulfill God’s commission.
Please continue to pray for and labor in love with the man whom God called to
lead and serve, Pastor Gamy Romano, a man who now has heavenly plans and
ambitions to serve his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ - King of Kings and Lord of
Lords.
The Church
The Metropolitan Bible Baptist Church Toronto (MBBC Toronto) was born on September 11, 2005.
It is being lead by Gamy Romano Jr., the man called by God
to pastor the church. It exists to fulfill the Great Commission of
the Lord Jesus Christ as found in Matthew 28: 18-20, which says, "...All power is given unto me in
heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and
of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded
you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."
A few years ago, 9-11 became synonymous with destruction. It symbolized death. To the members of
MBBC Toronto, especially to its pastor, and to those who will become part of this promising church, 9-
11 takes on an entirely new meaning. Henceforth, 9-11 will be the day when MBBC Toronto, a lifesaving
station is built where souls will be saved and life restored through the preaching of the Word of
God. It is a spiritual solace. It is a place, where needing souls meet a loving and providing Savior. It is
a place of pure worship. It is a place of fundamental preaching from the unadulterated Word of God. It is a place of great Christian fellowship where everybody is loved. It is a place
where prayers are answered. It is a place to laugh, to cry, to work, to rest, it is a place of caring, of
sharing and fellowship. Many have been saved through this church and we pray the Lord of Harvest to
lead us to more souls. Our church slogan says it all:
